An approach which can model diffuse lighting effects is the radiosity method (Hall 1989). This method is based on balancing the distribution of light energy that is passed around in a scene by diffuse reflection from each surface to all other surfaces. Radiosity and ray tracing have been combined in the two pass method (Wallace et al 1987; Sillion and Puech 1989), which models both diffuse and specular components to achieve a high degree of realism. Ray tracing is also used here as a probing technique for estimating the/orm/actors for modelling the diffuse inter-reflections.
Local updating is a strategy for making incremental changes to a geometric model and its displayed image for a fixed viewing 44 position.
