This quantity is a part of the Ceramic Engineering and technological know-how continuing (CESP) series. This sequence features a selection of papers facing matters in either conventional ceramics (i.e., glass, whitewares, refractories, and porcelain tooth) and complicated ceramics. issues coated within the quarter of complex ceramic comprise bioceramics, nanomaterials, composites, strong oxide gasoline cells, mechanical homes and structural layout, complex ceramic coatings, ceramic armor, porous ceramics, and more.

Optimum keep watch over thought is the technological know-how of maximizing the returns from and minimizing the prices of the operation of actual, social, and fiscal procedures. aimed toward upper-level undergraduates, this article introduces 3 elements of optimum regulate concept: dynamic programming, Pontryagin's minimal precept, and numerical thoughts for trajectory optimization.
Within the past due 1950's, the crowd of Soviet mathematicians which include L. S. Pontryagin, V. G. Boltyanskii, R. V. Gamkrelidze, and E. F. Mishchenko made basic contributions to optimum keep watch over idea. a lot in their paintings used to be amassed of their monograph, The Mathematical concept of optimum approaches.

Direct profiling analyzes an actual product during routine production, whereas indirect profiling involves the use of a test piece designed to imitate products in normal production. Direct profiling is advantageous when it is too expensive or difficult to use a test piece, when products frequently vary in size, shape or coatings, when it is possible to apply thermocouples without damaging the product finish, or when sensors can be applied and removed quickly on-line during normal production. 31 Indirect profiling is suitable when thermocouples cannot be attached directly to the product without causing finish damage, when standard products are processed day after day, either when the line can be stopped or space provided for an addition of a test piece during standard process or when a test piece can be manufactured that accurately mimics a standard product.
But what about management? If the top-level managers do not “sing the praises,” then mid-level managers, supervisors, and so-on down the line will not use the discipline necessary to make the system work. Your people must believe in it in order to make it work because it is an everyday effort. How do you control your processes? Everyone knows that this is something that must be done, but what steps must be taken to accomplish it? Design of experiments and statistical process control are good tools when implemented properly.
